Getting ready for Sea Trout 2012

Now that I have got into my lure fishing, I am gearing up to go and get stuck into some early season sea trout fishing. That is if the weather lets me! Got a few nice marks to try and if in doubt head to the estuary.

Got myself some smaller sub 95mm hard lures. . . I had some success on a 90mm plug last season so hopefully they still are in the mood for them!

Also got myself a new rod to try out, a cheap as chips ron thompson. Allegedly this casts 2-8g but I have had a little play about with it and it throws heavier than that, but still its a cracking bit of kit for the money. I bet it will be a nice scrap from a trout even sub 1 pound!

If these don't work for trout I am hoping that the Bass may take a fancy for them in April!

Just loaded it up with my Daiwa, can't afford to buy another reel at the minute but it will do for the minute.

Not long to wait now until the season starts ....... Fingers crossed.

Updates to come!

Welsh Bass Guide

Welsh Bass Guide:

http://www.welshbassguide.co.uk/

What can I say, at first I was blissfully unaware at the potential of this stunning bit of coastline until I began talking to Matt!

The potential here for some awesome Bass fishing is HUGE ...... couple that with top class accommodation, food and guiding .......... well could you really say no?

Ohh and did I mention foraging? Yes, you got it! Foraging is also available too .... Something I myself would find interesting to learn more about and maybe you would too!

A really decent guy and certainly I can see this being a huge success .... why not check it out?

Lure fishing is perhaps 'the' best way to catch these awesome fish .... I know we often hear of the hot spots like Ireland and France etc .... but without doubt we should be broadening our minds and looking to target these fish all over the U.K!

I know Matt has a great ethos, one shared by myself and many other anglers of catch and release and works hard to preserve these wonderful fish!

Atleast check it out and give him a shout!

New hooks for shallow running lures!

After much talk and debate I finally ordered myself some size 4 single ringed hooks to use on my shallow running lures.

I took the idea from Jay, who i'd seen use them on his feed shallows and they look the business......

Ordered them at 4pm Thursday - arrived 1pm Friday! Now that is fast!

Feed Shallow:

Daiwa Chugger Minnow - Poor mans Feed Shallow?

It seems to me after using both of these lures for a short period of time that there seems to be a huge price difference but not too much regards action etc .... I know what i would prefer every time - The Tackle House, but for a budget shallow running lure, the Chugger really runs nicely. Also it doesn't break the bank if you loose it!

There is a quick glimpse of the new hooks anyway ........ Undecided yet if they are big enough.

Sure let me know what you think!

Opening a new door .... LRF

After my recent trip to Wexford, and a very brief but enjoyable blast at LRF with Jay La Roche, I have decided to spend a few quid and get myself some LRF gear.

I know a lot of you will tell me to buy the best you can afford ... and usually I would agree, however I'm not 100% sure it will be my thing so I am going to dabble at it with a bit of cheap and cheerful gear and then make my mind up!

I got my hands on a Ron Thompson 2-8g rod for under Ā£30....... surely it can't be great at that money? I lifted it up and the action actually isn't that bad ..... its light and finish looks ok. I know it is not anywhere near the same quality as the gear used by those who are into it but it will do me untill I get some interest in it....

However the trouble starts here ...... what reel? On a budget ...... I have been checking out some 2500 size Daiwa reels but its just hard to know what is good value and what is useless tat!

I've got myself some hooks ranging from size 8 to 16 so hopefully they shall do the business ...

Next step line and lures ............

The lures I am hoping I can work out myself and use some logic as to what looks good or 'matches the hatch' in terms of feeding etc!

The line however ...... I don't know

Anyway, anyone who is reading this and knows a thing or two, I would appreciate the comments..
